The new murder is eerily similar to the older one, although the first body wasn't identified as a priest. She is troubled by the collar and a Latin message written inside. Cate and Will, the ex, combine with Cate's current boyfriend who is the medical examiner to figure out what happened.
The book is fast paced, well written and brings to light a delightful character in Cate Harlow and a wonderful contrasting pair of lovers. This first in a series promises hours of page-turning reading.

Cate Harlow, a smart, witty and tough detective with a heart. She’s investigates the death of a pedophile priest, which has similarities of a previous unsolved case. And during all this, she has to deal with a rather annoying ex-husband who enjoys pushing her buttons.
This is a fast paced, tightly written book with strong characters and you will become a big fan of Cate Harlow, with her dry humor and wit. She is intelligent and strong. She is a very relatable character on so many levels.

I look forward to reading more from this author, and more of her Cate Harlow character!

For I Have Sinned – A Cate Harlow Private Investigation Book Review By Tina Sansone
I recently read “For I Have Sinned – A Cate Harlow Private Investigation” written by Kristen Houghton. I was immediately captivated by the characters in her book and looked forward to reading about their lives. As a genealogist who loves a good mystery, the thrill of discovering the missing pieces, I could relate to Cate Harlow. I enjoyed reading about her investigations and seeing how she worked her cases.
We are brought into Cate’s world, both personal and work. Her relationship with her ex-husband, a cop and her current boyfriend, the coroner, was fun to watch. The interaction between these three was fun to read! After reading the book I still do not know who Cate was truly in love with, which makes me hopeful another chapter in her life will be written about soon.
The sexual abuse within the Catholic Church was a back ground theme and was done in very good taste, respectful to those of the faith. It brought to light the horrible account that many young boys have gone through at the hands of men they trusted. But, at the same time, we see that there are many good faithful Catholic priests that are trying to put an end to this crime and punish those responsible. The book centers around the investigation of a missing boy, and how what happened to him as a young boy affected his family, friends and neighbors. The gruesome accounts of the revengeful victims make the seriousness of the long time effects of sexual abuse even more apparent.
I do not want to give away any spoilers, but this book is one that you will find hard to put down. I started reading this book and finished it the same day. It was an exciting suspenseful read. Kristen did her work in learning the case histories of the sexual abuse cases within the church system, and how it worked within the police and judicial system. Cate Harlow had interactions with her friends, clients and secretary that showed her compassionate side, which made her even more humanistic to me.
I am hopeful that there will be more cases coming out in the “Cate Harlow Private Investigation”; that we will be able to learn more about Cate, her friends, the men in her life, but more important the exciting work cases she will be drawn into. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Very well done, covers a subject that needs exposure.
Cate is a wonderful central character surrounded by interesting others that you want to know more about as well. The mystery left no loose ends which is always appreciated. Already bought the next book in the series.
This is really a good book, different, informative but still a good mystery! I rarely write reviews, but had to acknowledge this book!
Cate Harlow is a gem! A self-aware woman in touch with her own needs and feelings, who can both take it and dish it out. Her sensitivity is leavened with an intelligent, level-headed approach to getting the job done with or without a gun. She is a model for other woman as she weaves her way through a tough, well-plotted story with delicacy and aplomb, somehow managing to solve the mystery and juggle steamy romance at the same time. Her author is a sharp storyteller on a mission to bring the bad guys to justice.

I just discovered Kristen Houghton, the author, who wrote For I Have Sinned. She's a great storyteller & the subject matter is current. She doesn't go into a lot of sexual exploits; just enough to keep your interest. I'll be reading her other books, for sure.
